Let’s talk melons

    Shopping for Melons

Turn to the goldilocks rule when choosing melons: not too little or too much aroma; just the smell of sweetness. Melons should be a soft orange-yellow with no green, evenly shaped, moderately heavy, not bruised, and make a hollow noise when tapped. Wrap in plastic when storing in the refrigerator, as melons accelerate the ripening of other fruits.

    Nutritional Info

The gorgeous orangey shade of melons is not just beautiful—it packs a wallop of beta-carotene, which is converted to Vitamin A and boosts eyes, red blood cells and the immune system. A single cup of melon exceeds the daily recommended dose of Vitamin C, and is rich in Vitamin B9 (folate), potassium, protein, and fiber. Rounding out this powerhouse fruit are Vitamins B1, B2, B3, B6, and K, as well as choline, calcium, iron, magnesium, manganese, phosphorus, potassium, sodium, and zinc.

    Taste Profile

A delicate and sweet taste with succulent and juicy flesh are the hallmarks of a perfectly ripe melon.
